Celebrating the 2026 Women’s Prize for Fiction Shortlist
Yesterday, the highly anticipated shortlist for the 2026 Women's Prize for Fiction was finally revealed, and our to-be-read piles have officially grown. Chaired by former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, the judging panel has delivered an amazing lineup that explores themes of power, individual agency, and human connection. - Dominion by Addie E. Citchens
- The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
- The Mercy Step by Marcia Hutchinson
- Kingfisher by Rozie Kelly
- Heart the Lover by Lily King
We are absolutely thrilled to see some of our current favourites make the cut. If you're looking to dive straight into the shortlist, we currently stock three of these magnificent titles right here at Booxies.
Here is a closer look at the ones we simply cannot stop recommending:
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

This charming and deeply moving debut is an absolute joy. Told entirely through letters, it follows 73-year-old Sybil Van Antwerp, a witty, stubborn, and wonderfully human retired lawyer who prefers to keep the world at arm's length by communicating through writing. As she faces her own vulnerabilities and a secret from her past, her letters reveal a stunning meditation on ageing, hope, and the power of the written word. It’s the kind of book that leaves a lasting warmth long after the final page.
Flashlight by Susan Choi

From the brilliant mind of acclaimed author Susan Choi comes a sprawling, heart-breaking historical family saga. Driven by the sudden disappearance of a father, Flashlight intricately examines the ripples of absence and the complexities of family dynamics. It is twisty, profoundly emotional, and an absolute page-turner that showcases Choi's masterful storytelling.
Heart the Lover by Lily King

Lily King delivers a gorgeously written exploration of desire, friendship, and the lifelong echoes of young love. When the narrator, Jordan, meets Sam and Yash at college, it sparks a complicated triangular dynamic. Tracking the ramifications of their choices over the years, this novel is an intimate, poetic celebration of love and second chances.
